CARSON, Calif. -- Fanendo Adi scored his first two MLS goals to help the Portland Timbers beat Chivas USA 2-0 on Wednesday night. Portland improved to 3-3-7, winning its second straight game and third in its last five. Chivas dropped to 2-6-4. Former Chivas midfielder Jorge Villafana helped create the first goal when he ran down the left flank in the 65th minute and crossed the ball to Adi for a shot from 10 yards out. Adi doubled Portlands advantage in the 71st minute on a breakaway. Chivas Bobby Burling was sent off in the 84th minute after a rough challenge on Adi. Portland made eight changes to the starting lineup from its road victory Saturday night over New York. As the Spitfires star skated away, Stolarz took a one-handed swing with his stick and hit Ho-Sung on the back of the head. The Knights said the suspension was for a "stick infraction." Stolarz, a 2012 second round puck of the Philadelphia Flyers, was given a surprisingly lenient minor penalty for high-sticking. "I apologize for my actions on Tuesday night," Stolarz said Wednesday in a statement. The Windsor Star reported that Kuchmey apologized to his teammates but did not intend to return to the team. He said he was embarrassed in front of the fans by being left in for so many goals. He had indicated after the sixth goal that he wanted to come out of the game. Kuchmey tweeted that "nobody knows what happens behind the scenes."
